On Sounds Good?, Tracy Ross introduces us to the new executive director of Heartland CARES, Sean Oslin.
Heartland CARES is a full service HIV/AIDS program based in Paducah. It maintains satellite offices in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Murphysboro, Illinois. The organization provides case management services, food support, full clinical care, and an on-site pharmacy. This is the program’s 20th year of service.
As executive director, Oslin says he will restart the organization’s prevention services, strengthen outreach efforts, and develop the fundraising strategy.
“Part of that, too, is also trying to help get the message out that HIV and AIDS is not a death sentence. There are really good treatments out there and people can live a very long time if they get on treatment. And the earlier they get on, the better,” Oslin said.
Oslin has worked in HIV/AIDS programs 20 years. He has worked in long-term care, served on a board for HIV/AIDS vaccine trials, and has been a consultant for the U.S. government. He worked in Mozambique and Namibia for ten years before returning to the United States to serve at Heartland CARES.
