[Audio] New Artistic Director Developing Jackson Purchase Dance Company Around Community Interests

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Jessica Reimer, the new artistic director of the Jackson Purchase Dance Company, speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about the future of the JPDC.

Reimer has studied dance since the age of three. Originally from Oklahoma City, she graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a BFA in Dance Performance, spent 3 years as full time company member with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, and has over 18 years experience teaching multiple styles of dance.

Reimer says she will spend this transitional year building the company around community interests. She says the fall semester will focus on ballet, modern, and jazz but says she hopes to include tap, ballroom, partnering, and musical theater in the future.

There is no age past which people can start practicing dance. Reimer says a person only needs a passion and dedication to succeed.

JPDC classes serve ages four and up and begin August 15. Enrollment remains open continuously. More information about the JPDC is available at jpdanceco.com.
