[Audio] Mount Kenton Cemetery Continues Work to Reestablish Lost Records

mtkenton.com

Robert Worden, chairman of the board of directors for Mount Kenton Cemetery in Paducah, talks with Todd Hatton on Sounds Good about the non-profit’s ongoing efforts to identify those buried at the cemetery and find their family members.

The 30 acre cemetery was established in 1857 and is home to the burial site of Vice President Alben Barkley.

Worden says the cemetery’s records have been lost through flood and fire since its establishment nearly 160 years ago. So far, the organization has identified about 98 percent of the people buried in the cemetery through work with volunteers and other historical organizations.

People interested in helping with the Mt. Kenton Cemetery project can call the cemetery manager at 270-554-1566.

Todd Hatton hails from Paducah, Kentucky, where he got into radio under the auspices of the late, great John Stewart of WKYX while a student at Paducah Community College. He also worked at WKMS in the reel-to-reel tape days of the early 1990s before running off first to San Francisco, then Orlando in search of something to do when he grew up. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Murray State University. He vigorously resists adulthood and watches his wife, Angela Hatton, save the world one plastic bottle at a time.
A proud native of Murray, Kentucky, Allison grew up roaming the forests of western Kentucky and visiting national parks across the country. She graduated in 2014 from Murray State University where she studied Environmental Sustainability, Television Production, and Spanish. She loves meeting new people, questioning everything, and dancing through the sun and the rain. She hopes to make a positive impact in this world several endeavors at a time.
