Local organization Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful will be cleaning up at Land Between the Lakes this weekend.
Program Coordinator Laura Howard speaks with Austin Carter on Sounds Good about the importance of the Tennessee River.
Howard says the organization is a year-long program to keep the river clean. Current threats include pollution from business and travelers.
She says she commonly sees items like bottles and bottle caps when working. This pollution has a negative impact on the local ecosystem.
This Saturday, the organization is holding a clean-up effort at Land Between the Lakes. Howard says they’ll start at 9:30 A.M., and volunteers will receive free t-shirts and water bottles along with a free lunch.
