[Audio] Calloway County Public Library Sees High Summer Traffic

Calloway County Public Library, Facebook

Calloway County Public Library’s Sandy Linn speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about wrapping up the Summer Reading Program and upcoming events.

Linn says CCPL has seen high traffic the last few months. She says the parking lot, computer stations, and book return carts have been packed this summer.

It’s been really fabulous…. So anyone who thinks that people are not reading I just invite them to come and look at the Calloway County Public Library and see what people are selecting and then the carts [of returned books],” Linn said.

At the conclusion of the Summer Reading Program, library staff distributes “book-bucks” to children according to how many books they read during the summer. Kids spend those bucks on prizes at read-mart day. Linn says they passed out nearly 8,000 book bucks this summer.

Coming up at the library:

The National Park Film Series continues Thursday with the 4th episode. The series is presented in collaboration with Fort Donelson National Battlefield.

The Friends of CCPL sponsor a visit from Kentucky Educational Television’s Bill Goodman August 7th, the weekend of the Fancy Farm Picnic. The group also sponsors an October community read event of the late Sid Easley’s book “A Courthouse Tragedy: Politics, Murder, and Redemption in a Small Kentucky Town.”

And electronic comic books and an online book club will soon be available.
