Therese Saint Paul, French professor at Murray State University woke up to a phone call from a friend asking her if she had heard the bad news. She immediately went online to find out her home country, Belgium had been attacked.
“It’s so devastating, that actually my mother who is from Belgium was visiting me and she is due to leave tomorrow so it’s really chilling to think had she left today she might have been encountering this horror, it’s really chilling,” Paul said.
Saint Paul says there’s never been an attack by a terrorist group like this on Belgian soil and it comes to her as a shock. She says she doesn’t know what the solution is.
“You take a couple; they’re going to blow themselves up. They go with the idea that they don’t mind dying. So what can you do to these people who go and don’t mind dying. What do you do?” Paul said.
Saint Paul says people should not live in fear, which only gives the attackers more power. She says education is the solution.
