[Audio] The 1850s Homeplace Trade Fair Kicks off this Weekend

landbetweenthelakes.us

The 1850sHomeplace Trade Fair takes place this weekend at Land Between the Lakes. The annual event offers attendees a taste of American life from two centuries ago. On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross sat down with Homeplase Lead Interpreter Cindy Earls to learn just what the fair's all about.

The fair brings in people who have kept the traditions of hold handcrafts alive: pottery, sketch art, baked goods, beekeeping, salt making, clothing demonstrations and more.A special children's trade fair gets kids involved in the trades, asking the craftsmen questions and doing different activities - getting the next generation inspired to continue the age old trades.

Ongoing demonstrations throughout the day and a medicine show, new this year, a humorous show showing how they sold "medicine" back then. A salt maker shows how to make the product that we tend to take for granted today.

You can also see the new mules Todd and Dan, oxen, pigs, chickens, ducks and sheep.

The fair kicks off this Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
