Arctic Cold Front Heading Toward Region

By Shelly Baskin

Murray, KY – Western Kentucky residents could see their first severe winter weather over the next few days. The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a winter weather advisory for snow starting at 6 AM tomorrow and lasting until midnight tomorrow night. McCracken County's Emergency Management meteorologist Beau Dodson says the snow is due to an arctic blast coming through the region. Dodson says the cold air will cause some snow and freezing conditions, but isn't likely to stay long.

"What I call transient cold air seems to have been the pattern for the last two months is we'll get somewhat colder air in for two or three days and that followed by milder temperatures. And that once again seems to be the case this time with the coldest air on Thursday and then we start to see a moderation already on Saturday."

Dodson says the conditions are right to create black ice on roadways, and motorist should be alert on roads and bridges. He says temperatures will start dropping late tonight and the cold weather will last until late Friday.
