The Associated Press projects Republican James Comer will easily win the election to represent Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District.
Comer will take office soon after the election results are certified because he also won a special election for the seat formerly held by Congressman Ed Whitfield, who resigned in September.
Comer, who served as Kentucky’s agriculture commissioner from 2012 until earlier this year, outraised Democratic opponent Sam Gaskins 80-to-1. Comer lost a bid for his party’s nomination for governor last year to Matt Bevin.
