Ag Commissioner Comer's Gubernatorial Campaign Kicks Off Tomorrow

kyagr.com

Kentucky’s Agriculture Commissioner will officially launch his campaign for governor tomorrow in his hometown of Tompkinsville.

Republican James Comer is billing the event as a defining moment for his campaign with elected leaders from both political parties scheduled to attend.  Comer told Kentucky Public Radio why he decided to launch his bid for the state’s highest office in rural Monroe County.

“I want to be a governor for all Kentuckians and there are so many parts of the state that are forgotten about by Frankfort," said Comer.

"But I’m proud of Tompkinsville, I’m proud to be from a small town with friends and family. I think if you want to know something about a candidate, go to their hometown and see the people they grew up with and the former teachers and friends, classmates, business partners, and see what kinda guy is this.”

Comer will kick off his campaign and announce his running mate from the Monroe County Courthouse starting at 10 A.M. central time.

“September the ninth will be a defining moment for my campaign," said Comer. "We’re going to demonstrate some things that haven’t been demonstrated by Republican candidates for governor in a while. We’re going to demonstrate excitement, energy and strong organization in all 120 counties.”

As of now, Comer will face Louisville businessman Hal Heiner in the Republican primary for governor in 2015.

Attorney General Jack Conway is the only Democrat to announce so far.
