6th District State House Race Shaping Up as Travis Announces Plans

Marshall County native Keith Travis announced his intentions today to file his Republican candidacy papers for the Kentucky House of Representatives 6th District seat.

Current 6th District Democratic Representative Will Coursey is facing chargesthat he retaliated againsta state staffer when she complained about Coursey’s inappropriate behavior toward female interns. Coursey has filed a counter suit.

The 61-year-old Travis is theVice President of Development for Murray Calloway County Hospital.

Travis is a former chairman of the state board of education and has been named the Marshall County Citizen of the Year. Travis is also involved in many civic organizations.

Travis says wants to see more economic growth with less governmental intervention in Kentucky. He plans to file his papers with the Secretary of State on January 15.

Coursey is in his third term and and had no primary or general election challenger in his last bid for re-election. 

Republicans currently hold 46 House seats. They need 51 to win a majority.

The House’s sixth district consists of Marshall and Lyon Counties, as well as parts of Livingston and McCracken Counties.
