4th of July Travel Expected to Drop

By Stephanie Sanders

Louisville, KY – AAA is predicting a nearly 3 percent decline in the number of people traveling by automobile this holiday weekend. Officials predict about 37 million people nationwide will drive more than fifty miles from their homes. AAA spokesperson Roger Boyd says gas prices and the overall economy impact how many people take to the road.

What we've seen is a decline in people traveling by automobile, about 2.6%, now that's in light of the fact that we're paying well over a dollar less on gasoline prices than we were last year. And that goes back to what AAA has always said, that it's comfort in the economy that really spurs whether or not people decide to travel.

Boyd says gas prices actually declined earlier this week, but it wouldn't be surprising to see an increase this weekend.
