Whitney grew up listening to Car Talk to and from her family’s beach vacation each year, but it wasn’t until a friend introduced her to This American Life that radio really grabbed her attention. She is a recent graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she studied journalism. When she’s not at WKMS, you can find her working on her backyard compost pile and garden, getting lost on her bicycle or crocheting one massive blanket.

The Democratic Attorneys General Association has named Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway as its co-chairman. Conway is in his second term in state office and will serve alongside California Attorney General Kamala Harris and Delaware Attorney Beau Biden. Conway is also on the executive committee of the National Association of Attorneys General.  He is co-chairman of their consumer protection and substance abuse committees.

A Clarksville, Tenn., semiconductor company should begin production of a critical base component of solar energy panels in 2013. Hemlock Semiconductor Director of Contract Manufacturing Terry Strange says construction has gone well on the $1.2 billion first phase of the project.

Two men with alleged ties to a Clarksville, Tennessee gang are facing five decades in prison after a Hopkinsville, Kentucky jury found them guilty of the 2008 murder of Shyarra Olavarria. Her remains were found in a remote area of Christian County in May of that year. 

A 10th District House seat candidate says he made a mistake asking the Earlington city clerk to send an email regarding his campaign rally. Earlington mayor Mike Seiber tells The Madisonville Messenger he inadvertently asked her to send the message, which was about his upcoming political rally featuring House Speaker Greg Stumbo. Sieber says he realized his mistake the next day when he received a forwarded copy of the original email carrying the clerk’s email address. Seiber is a Democrat who is challenging Republican incumbent Ben Waide.

Commonwealth Attorney Mark Blankenship plans to intensify efforts to reach a plea bargain for Murray State University basketball player Zaveral “Zay” Jackson. Blankenship says he is concerned social media comments about the case have affected the Calloway County jury.

Police allege Jackson struck two people with his car in Murray’s Walmart parking lot Sept. 9. Blankenship says the offer to Jackson will include conditions of jail time, restitution to the victims and anger management.

The city of Sturgis’s plan to shut down its water plant and move to the county water system is a good economic decision. That’s the opinion of Department for Local Government Commissioner Tony Wilder. He said the 34-year old Sturgis water plant spends 40-thousand dollars a year to meet current cleaning standards. Wilder said it’s cheaper for Sturgis to connect to the Morganfield plant than to build a new local one.
