Demolition begins Monday on a portion of Cardinal Stadium at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Workers will take down and salvage the stadium’s metal bleachers. The entire stadium has fallen into disrepair and engineers hired by the state have recommended all of it be torn down. But Amanda Storment with the state fair board says the financing for that is not in place yet.
A Jefferson County Public Schools teacher has filed a lawsuit against the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System over its lack of funding. Plaintiff and DuPont Manual High School teacher Randolph Wieck says the system that supports over 140,000 teachers in Kentucky is at least $20 billion dollars in debt.
“We have raced to the bottom and we’re neck and neck with the worst funded teachers plan in the country,” Wieck said.

Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities are asking for approval to build a new 700 million dollar natural gas-fired generating plant in western Kentucky, and a smaller solar-powered station at one of their existing sites.
Spokeswoman Chris Whelan said the new gas-fired facility in Muhlenberg County will be similar to the station being built at Cane Run in Jefferson County. The companies are phasing out three of their coal-fired plants.
