Kala Dunn is a native of Princeton, Ky. She’s a 2006 graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy with a concentration in flute performance and a 2010 graduate of Murray State University with a B.M. in piano performance. She lives in Hamlin, Ky.

The Jackson Purchase Dance Company celebrates its 25th anniversary season with the Silver Anniversary Dancefest tomorrow afternoon at 2 at Murray State University’s Lovett Auditorium. The performance features dancers from the past 25 years, and there’s a display of memorabilia and a gala reception for the entire audience following the event.

The Murray State University Horticulture Department holds its annual spring plant sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Arboretum and Pullen Farm Greenhouse. The Arboretum and Greenhouse are located on Hickory Street off Highway 94 West in Murray. 

The River Discovery Center in Paducah hosts the International Honor Quilt through the end of the month. The exhibit consists of 150 quilt panels made by women all over the globe to honor women including Eleanor Roosevelt, Maria Montessori, Pearl Buck, Anne Frank, Janis Joplin, and more. The River Discovery Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 to 5 and Sunday from 1 to 5. 

The Watershed Studies Institute holds the 8th Annual Research Symposium tomorrow in the Barkley Room of the Murray State University Curris Center. The symposium lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the session chair is Dr. Howard Whiteman.

The City of Murray Human Rights Commission celebrates Human Rights Awareness Week. Tomorrow there's a discussion on understanding voting rights at 6 at the Calloway County Public Library. There's a speech on democracy, turnout, and inequality Thursday at 7:30 in MSU's Wrather Auditorium. And Friday there's a Need Line food drive at Kroger. 

WKCTC's chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association and the Paducah Human Rights Commission hold the Heroes' Race to Fight Child Abuse 5K run Saturday at 5 p.m. The race honors military and civil service heroes. All proceeds benefit Paducah Child Watch Children's Advocacy Center. Check-in begins at 3 p.m. in the Anderson Technical Building parking lot.

The Paducah-McCracken County Spring Clean Up Day is this Saturday from 7 to 2 at the Republic Services transfer station. The free service accepts items including household trash, white goods, tires, household hazardous waste, ammunition, prescription medications, fluorescent bulbs, and recyclables.

The 27th Annual Quilt Show is currently on display at the Pennyroyal Area Museum in Hopkinsville. In conjunction with the exhibit, there’s an old-fashioned Quilting Bee this Saturday from 10:30 to 2. Members of the local quilting group Knot Just Quilters are on-site to demonstrate their skills and to chat about their art.

The Murray State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble holds its annual Provost’s Concert tonight at 7:30 in Lovett Auditorium. The concert features guest soloist Master Gunnery Sergeant Susan Rider, principal trumpet in the United States Marine Band stationed in Washington, D.C. The concert is free and open to the public. 

The Stewart County High School Band holds the March for Music 5K this Saturday morning at 10 at Dover City Park. Registration starts at 8:30, and the 5K begins at 10. Registration forms are also available at the March for Music 5K Facebook page.
