It all came to an end for Milli Vanilli on this day in 1990: stripped of their "Best New Artist" Grammy for lip-syncing the hit, "Girl You Know It's True." During an MTV concert, the backing track hit a snag and began repeating "girl you know it's true" over and over. Four days later, Grammy no more. I guess it wasn't true after all.

Being that guy with a metal detector paid off big time for Eric Lawes, who was merely looking for his friend's lost hammer when he discovered the Hoxne Hoard, one of the largest hoards of Roman gold and silver in the world. The collection valued at over $4.2 million (today) and was purchased by the British Museum. We're pretty sure the hammer is still out there.

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area offers a Kids’ Fossil Field Trip on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4. Meet at the Golden Pond Visitors Center for a trip to a rocky shoreline. Georgia O'Keeffe, painter and a pioneer for women in the arts, struck the New York art scene with her large-format paintings of blossoms. About her work, she said "it is only by selection, by elimination, and by emphasis that we get at the real meaning of things." In 1977, President Ford presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor awarded to citizens.

On the day after today in 1922, The Daily News reported "For the first time in history, news was broadcast in England last night by the British Broadcasting Company." Director of Programmes Arthur Burrows read the two news bulletins from the Marconi House in London. He later remarked that it was a great test of nerves. But we're glad he did it.

On this day in 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was formally dedicated and right away placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The American Institute of Architects ranked the wall tenth on their "List of America's Favorite Architecture."

Hugh Gray walked along the shore of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands on a breezy, November day in 1933, when he spotted commotion in the water. Suddenly, a large creature with a long tail and thick body rose up from the lake, four flipper like appendages flailing about. Gray fumbled with his camera and snapped the first known picture of the Loch Ness Monster.

The first issue of Rolling Stone magazine debuted on this day in 1967 with John Lennon on the cover. In the issue, the cheif editor Jann Wenner said the magazine "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces."

It's a day to celebrate for public radio! On this day in 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, establishing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and eventually National Public Radio. He said, "Today we rededicate a part of the airwaves-which belong to all of the people - and we dedicate them for enlightenment of all of the people."

NBC's Meet the Press is the longest-running TV series in American history, debuting on this day in 1947. The show interviews national leaders on issues of politics, economics, foreign policy, and other public affairs, often with two figures with opposing positions. It's also Election Day... The West Kentucky Community and Technical College Community Health Fair is tomorrow at the Robert Cherry Civic Center.  The fair includes free screenings for blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure, as well as blood typing.  Services are provided by nursing students and faculty members.  Hours are 9:30 to 2:30.

The Gunpowder Plot was a failed assassination attempt against Protestant King James I of England on November 5, 1605. Conspirator Guy Fawkes was arrested while guarding explosives beneath the House of Lords. People lit bonfires and made an annual celebration in remembrance of the survival of the king.

“Farming in the Black Patch” premieres tonight at Murray State University’s Curris Center.  The new documentary explains the process of tobacco cultivation and outlines the task of running and operating a modern tobacco farm.  Doors open at 6, and the film begins at 6:45.
