McCracken Schools Chairman Parker Running for State Senate

McCracken County Public Schools board chairman Jeff Parker says he will run for the second district state Senate seat being vacated by Bob Leeper.

Parker is a Democrat and joins Republicans Danny Carroll and Dave Hoffman in the race to replace Leeper, who has represented Ballard, McCracken and Marshall counties for more than 20 years.

New U.S. 641 Alignment Selected for Ky. Counties

Based on public input, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has selected a new route for U.S. 641 from Fredonia to U.S. 62 at Eddyville.

The route will skirt the east edge of Fredonia, where it will then follow an abandoned rail line to the Caldwell-Lyon county line.  It will briefly follow the existing roadway before routing along property lines and existing state-owned property to reach U.S. 62 near the I-69 interchange east of Eddyville.

After Protest, LBL Maintenance Contract Awarded to South Carolina Company

The federal government has given final approval to an $8.5 million maintenance contract at the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

The U.S. Forest Service awarded South Carolina-based EnviroSmart the 5-year contract in August which prompted a protest by union workers contracted with Swift & Staley - the Kevil company which has conducted maintenance operations at the park since 2010.

Mayfield 9-1-1 Calls Going to KSP

 Mayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrell is set to broker an interlocal agreement between the city and the Kentucky State Police Post 1 to provide 9-1-1 dispatching services.

The Mayfield City Council recently gave unanimous consent for Cantrell to seek the partnership.

Wells to Run for Second Term as Murray Mayor

Wells made the announcement at Thursday night's meeting of the Murray City Council, after filing to run earlier in the day. He said he has several projects that he’d like to see come to fruition in his second term as city executive.

Hendricks Plans to Run for Hopkinsville Mayor

Christian County Chamber of Commerce President Carter Hendricks says he will run for mayor of Hopkinsville next year.

Hendricks announced in September that he would step down from his position with the chamber to pursue other opportunities. His resignation, previously set for March, will now be effective Jan. 10, 2014 as he prepares for the mayoral election.

Mayfield Wins Third State Championship in Four Years

The Mayfield Cardinals have won the Kentucky High School Athletic Association 1A state football championship again.

Mayfield defeated Williamsburg 42-0 at Bowling Green’s L.T. Smith Stadium Friday. This is Mayfield’s third championship in the last four years, and 10th overall.

Update Monday Morning

According to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd  the region had fog overnight in many counties.  A band of light freezing rain that briefly turned to snow swept across Henderson and Webster counties about 2:00 a.m

Temperatures held in the mid-20s which helped salt to continue thawing roads in the overnight hours. 

However, there are still opportunities for re-freezing, as well as some remaining icy spots that require additional treatment.
