Rapid-Response Disaster Team Seeks Area Volunteers

Eight Days of Hope is a rapid-response disaster team comprised of more than 3,000 volunteers across the country. They recently met in Buffalo, New York to assist with recovery after the November blizzard. They went to Tupelo, Mississippi to help after a tornado demolished the area. The organization is spinning off a new ministry in Hope Reigns, who is in Murray Saturday (Jan. 24) at Kroger to recruit volunteers. Ron Meloan and John Fuqua visit Sounds Good to tell Kate Lochte what the faith-based organization is all about and how you can get involved.

WKU President: Free Community College Plan Has Little Chance of Becoming Reality

WKU President Gary Ransdell says he thinks President Obama’s plan to make community college free has little chance of becoming reality.

In his State of the Union speech Tuesday, the President announced a plan to offer two years of tuition-free community college to students who maintained certain academic standards.

NTSB Issues Preliminary Report on Fatal Western Kentucky Plane Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on a deadly plane crash earlier this month in western Kentucky. The accident killed everyone on board except for a young girl.

USDA Proposes New Standards to Reduce Salmonella in Chicken Parts

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has found about half of ground chicken is contaminated with salmonella, and the agency is proposing new standards to reduce the bacteria by 30 percent.

The new rule would mean more testing, which John-Mark Hack says is more expense for the processor. He is a co-founder at Marksbury Farm Market in Garrard County.

Kentucky’s 5th District State Rep Kenny Imes says he’s in the race for State Treasurer.

He filed his candidacy with the Secretary of State's office today. 

The Murray Republican says that, beside Attorney General candidate Whitney Westerfield from Hopkinsville, there aren’t enough West Kentuckians running for executive office.
