Reaction to UK Obama Effigy

Lexington, KY – TWO MEN HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN THE CASE. ONE WAS IDENTIFIED UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY SENIOR JOE FISHER. THE OTHER SUSPECT WAS IDENTIFIED AS HUNTER BUSH. BOTH SUSPECTS ARE CHARGED WITH DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THEFT, AND BURGLARY. THEY REPORTEDLY STOLE MATERIALS FROM A FRAT HOUSE. UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT LEE TODD SAYS THEIR CASES ARE NOW IN THE HANDS OF THE FAYETTE COUNTY ATTORNEY. THE STUDENT IS ALSO SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION AT U-K.

Vote Rumors

Louisville, KY – The Kentucky Secretary of State's office has been trying to quash some rumors related to voting in Tuesday's election. One of the most common rumors involves electioneering, or campaigning too close to a polling place. It's illegal to actively campaign within 300 feet of a polling place, but Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Les Fugate says it's not against the law to wear campaign attire to the polls, as long as it doesn't create a diversion.

KYA Advocates for More Budget

Louisville, KY – With a nearly $300 million revenue shortfall looming for the commonwealth, the Kentucky Youth Advocates organization says state government should do all it can to avoid further cuts to the budgets of health and human services programs. KYA Executive Director Terry Brooks says the state should explore new revenue streams or tap into its rainy day fund to help offset the deficit.

Candidates Arrested for Marijuana

Paducah, KY – Two candidates for local office in Paducah have been arrested. Officers arrested Paducah City Commission candidate Eric Youngblood and his wife Melissa Youngblood, who is running for the Paducah School Board, for marijuana possession this morning. Paducah Police executed a search warrant at the couple's home and found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a firearm. Detectives obtained a warrant after investigating reports of drug use at the home. The Youngbloods are being lodged at the McCracken County Regional Jail.
