Additional charges added to sexual abuse case

Murray, KY – New charges have been added to the sexual abuse case against a former student teacher at Calloway County High School. Circuit Court officials say John "Drew" Millwood faces charges of tampering with physical evidence, attempting to tamper with physical evidence, cultivation of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police originally accused Millwood earlier this month with first degree sexual abuse for having sex with a female student under the age of 18. Millwood's arraignment is scheduled for April 13.

Calvert Bank Robbed

Calvert City, KY – The Heritage Bank in Calvert City was robbed yesterday afternoon. Witnesses told police that a man dressed in black and wearing a black face mask entered the bank, placing some sort of device on the counter and brandishing a firearm. He eventually left with an undisclosed amount of money. The Marshall County Sheriffs' Department will continue investigating the crime along with the FBI and the ATF. Anyone who can provide police with information leading to the robber's arrest may receive a $1000 reward.

Beshear Signs Disaster Days Bill

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has signed a bill that will allow waivers for school days missed due to the ice storm. The measure sponsored by Princeton Representative Mike Cherry allows a school district to take up to ten days off their calendar, instead of extending their school year. The bill will also apply to days missed last September due to Hurricane Ike.

Texting Law

Nashville, TN – A Tennessee state attorney general says sending or reading text messages while driving falls under a law prohibiting the unsafe operation of a motor vehicle. State Representative Vince Dean requested the opinion after hearing proposed legislation that would fine a person $50 for such behavior while driving.
