Paducah Native Plans Ball

Washington, D. C. – A Paducah native says he's surprised to find himself planning an inaugural ball in Washington. But 30-year-old Brandon Kirkham is president of the Washington Kentucky Society, and part of Kirkham's job as society president is organizing tonight's Bluegrass Ball. Governor Steve Beshear, the state's congressional delegation, and Kentucky celebrities are among the more than 1400-people expected to attend the ball.

Princeton Man Dies at Quarry

Princeton, KY – A Princeton man died Saturday afternoon after falling into a hopper at Specialty Rock in Caldwell County. The Princeton Times Leader reports Juan Nieves Banuelos was covered with several tons of gravel before rescue workers were able to arrive on scene. A Mine Safety and Health Administration official will investigate the accident.

Interview with Simkins biographer, James Humphreys

Murray, KY – Assistant professor of southern history at Murray State, North Carolinian James S. Humphreys, has written a biography of the late southern historian Francis Butler Simkins, a Guggenheim fellowship winner in 1952. Simkins' life was complicated by twists and turns in his professional life, his health and his opinions about race relations. Kate Lochte spoke with Humphreys about Simkins.
