Homeless Help

Frankfort, KY – Programs that assist the homeless in Kentucky should soon be sharing nearly $19 million dollars in federal stimulus money. Governor Steve Beshear says the state has already applied for the money, based on last year's statewide survey that found 8,100 homeless individuals in Kentucky.

The federal government set aside one-point-five billion dollars for the homeless prevention and rapid re-housing program. Kentucky has applied for over 18-point-five million dollars to implement the program in our state.

Policy Reversal

Cadiz Tables Restaurant Tax

Cadiz, KY – The Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist Commission will not be getting revenue from a proposed restaurant tax. City Mayor Lyn Bailey and tourism commission members recently tabled the idea due to Trigg's suffering economy in the face of major job loss. The organization had suggested the 3-percent tax on all restaurants in Cadiz to fund tourism publicity. Officials agree the measure is a good idea, but say now is not the time. Tourism Director Bill Stevens hopes to revive the issue in the future.
