Advocacy Group Watches State Budget

Frankfort, KY – Common Cause of Kentucky wants to make sure the state's share of the federal stimulus package is appropriately spent. Richard Beliles (be-LILES) of the citizens advocacy group says most of the money is supposed to go toward education and health care.

"Some of these states, including Kentucky, are really going to have a lot of pressure on them with their trying to balance their budgets. And because of that, some of this stimulus money may be placed and driven toward areas that wasn't the intent of the law."

Hopkinsville Man Tried for Attempted Murder

Hopkinsville, KY – A Hopkinsville man is on trial today in the Christian County Circuit Court for pulling out a handgun in a crowd and pointing it at a patrol car. The Hopkinsville Police Department says officers arrested convicted felon Kendall Montez Randolph on March 30 after he pulled the gun then attempted to run from police. He is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and alcohol intoxication, among other crimes. His trial will last through tomorrow.

Murray, KY – Murray State University, along with the city of Murray, begins hosting more than two hundred representatives from universities and communities from around the country today for the fourth annual national Town and Gown Conference. The four-day event is held in MSU's Curris Center and focuses on the best practices in building relations between universities and the cities that host them.

Metropolis Alderman Dies

Murray, Ky – 63 year old Richard L. Corzine died at Lourdes hospital in Paducah yesterday morning. The Paducah Sun reports Corzine served as Mayor in the 1980's and served as an alderman for 19 years. He was re-elected in April. Alderman Bob Midnight says Corzine's experience was unmatched. Funeral Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
