Murray Hospital to Add Helipad

Murray, KY – Murray-Calloway County Hospital is adding a helipad to their grounds. The hospital says it plans to build a new 50 square-foot landing pad for medical helicopters. It will be located just outside of its new Emergency Department when the expansion is complete in January. Currently, helicopters transporting patients land in the parking lot of Murray State University's Football Stadium. The new addition will cut out transport via ambulance to and from MSU for the 50-or-so patients transported each year.

Gov. Beshear Wants to Make Movies

Lexington, KY – Governor Steve Beshear is touting legislation that he hopes will result in more movies being made in Kentucky. The governor actually signed the legislation into law last month, but he will appear today at Lexington's Keeneland horse track for a ceremonial signing. Among other things, the legislation offers tax breaks to producers and crews that do work in the Commonwealth. Tax breaks on set construction, wardrobe, food and accommodations would be covered under the new law.

KY EDU Board Interviewing Candidates

Lexington, KY – Kentucky's Board of Education will hold a special meeting tomorrow morning in a closed session to interview four candidates for the commissioner of education post. The four interviewees are Dennis Cheek of Missouri, Terry Holliday of North Carolina, Catherine Cross Maple of New Mexico, and Michael Sentence of Massachusetts. The Board will follow the interviews in an open session with a full agenda. The new commissioner will replace Jon Draud, who resigned in February for health reasons.
