Park System Preserves Civil War History

Murray, KY – The Civil War left behind many relics and battle sites in Western Kentucky and Northeastern Tennessee. Paducah, Kentucky, and Dover, Tennessee, are both locations of significant battles. Museums and historic parks chart the events at these places and educate the tourists who visit them. But as Angela Hatton reports not all Civil War sites are so well-known.

KY Adventure Tourism c/s

Frankfort, KY – Memorial Day weekend traditionally kicks off the summer vacation season, and state officials are promoting outdoor and adventure tourism here in the Commonwealth. First lady Jane Beshear says outdoor recreation, like hiking, camping, bicycling and riding all-terrain vehicles, is a 33-billion dollar industry in the U-S. And she says nearly two-thirds of the population participates in some form of it.

CPE Approves Tuition Increases

Murray, KY – The Council on Postsecondary Education has approved increases in tuition and fees at public colleges and universities in Kentucky. The council granted 5 percent increases at the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville, 4 percent increases at regional universities like Murray and 3.3 percent increases at community colleges. Spokeswoman Sue Patrick called it the lowest tuition increase for undergraduate resident students in more than a decade.

Paducah Doctor Suspended

Paducah, KY – A doctor at Lourdes hospital has had his license suspended for three months after domestic violence allegations and accusations he improperly subscribed medications. Weight loss surgeon Dr. Alex Argotte resigned from his position at the hospital last month. The Paducah Sun reports a copy of an agreed order of suspension on file at the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure shows Argotte denies the allegations. At the same time, he agrees sufficient grounds existed to impose sanctions on him.
