Mayfield, KY – Adriana Diaz looks like the typical working mother her hair is pulled back in a messy ponytail and she's periodically distracted by the sounds of her children, who are waiting in the other room. She's daunted by the idea of doing an interview entirely in English though she came to the U-S from Guadalajara, Mexico 15 years ago she's still not comfortable speaking her second language.

Lender Files Counter Claim on Executive Inn Foreclosure

Paducah, KY – Executive Inn mortgage holder, Logan Asset Managed Fund, filed a cross-claim in a foreclosure lawsuit yesterday seeking full payment, all interest, and insurance premiums. The Florida-based investment company loaned hotel owner Bhupinder Singh $3.5 million in 2007 to finalize the purchase of the hotel. The Paducah Sun reports the loan is now in default and interest grows $2,400 a day. The Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center Corporation filed a competing claim earlier this month.

U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Comes Through for Area Farms

Washington D.C. – Farmers in Western Kentucky will share nearly $31 million to repair barns and other structures damaged by the January ice storm. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Kentucky is receiving almost half of $71 million in Emergency Conservation Program funds. All Kentucky counties in our listening area will receive funding, as well as Henry County, Tennessee.

Beshear Makes Money Available for County Roads

Frankfort, KY – Gov. Steve Beshear is redirecting about $21 million to be used for repairing county roads across the state. Beshear said in a statement that county governments are facing financial problems that make it difficult to pay for the repairs. Under the governor's initiative, county leaders would develop a list of roads that need attention most. The Department of Highways would have to concur with the list. After that, money would be approved for the repairs.
