Clarksville May Change Sunday Beer Sales

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville may soon change its law that would make beer sales on Sundays no different than any other day of the week. City Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin is proposing an ordinance that would change the city's standing prohibition on beer sales between 3:00 am until noon on Sundays. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports McLaughlin says the change would increase city revenues.

Deberry Trial Date Set

Mayfield, KY – A trial date is set for a Graves County couple accused of abusing more than seventy dogs. Joanal and Amy Deberry are expected in court to begin their trial disputing 30 animal cruelty charges March 16. The two were arrested last November after dozens of pit bulls were seized at and around their home. The dogs had wounds consistent with dog fighting.

Dr. Shah's Sentence Probated

Mayfield, KY – Dr. Dinesh Shah will serve no prison time for practicing medicine without a license. He will instead spend his five year sentence on supervised probation. Shah's attorney has asked the court to consider unsupervised probation, as the former Mayfield doctor plans to move back to India.

Ronnie James Assists Driver from Car Fire

Paducah, KY – Paducah business-owner Ronnie James assisted a driver of an SUV on fire on the John Puryear Drive overpass yesterday. James pulled over when he noticed a Jeep Cherokee stopped with its emergency lights flashing and its sole occupant seemingly unaware that fire was shooting from the undercarriage. James told the driver to get out and stopped traffic both ways until emergency responders arrived. He is the owner and operator of James Marine and has been a special deputy for around 14 years.

Graves Co. Focus of Legislative Meetings

Mayfield, KY – Graves County will be the focus of a two-day legislative meeting later this week. Interim Joint Committee on Economic Development and Tourism meetings will showcase the region's economy, local farmers and tourism industry. The Mayfield Grain Company will host these meetings Thursday and Friday.
