Illinois Launches Construction Zone Web Site

Springfield, IL – Illinois has a new Web site to update motorists on statewide road construction sites. State Department of Transportation Sec. Gary Hannig announced the site's launch yesterday. It provides current information on active construction sites, including those funded by federal stimulus dollars. Users can search for construction information by location, district or contractor. More information is available at state.il.us.

Knee Replacement a Relief

Paducah, KY – A new knee replacement technique makes surgery easier on patients and doctors. The procedure is being used for the first time in western Kentucky at Western Baptist Hospital. It allows surgeons to match the knee implant to a patient's anatomy. Western Baptist orthopedic surgeon Doctor Burton Stodghill says the technique typically cuts operation time in half and reduces blood loss, risk of infection, and recovery time.

Megasite Could Get Money

Hopkinsville, KY – A bill advancing through the US Senate could provide funding for work at an industrial megasite near Hopkinsville. The Kentucky New Era reports three million dollars of the 2010 Transportation Appropriations Bill could pay for a natural gas line to the site. The Tennessee Valley Authority created the megasite and seven other several years ago to promote economic development. The Hopkinsville location is the largest site still available.

Paducah Traffic Advisory

McCracken, KY – Travelers taking Interstate 24's Exit 7 in Paducah may encounter some construction work in the coming weeks. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has contracted an electrical crew to update the traffic lights in this area. Drivers should expect construction delays off and on for the next two months and be alert for close proximity to workers and equipment. Around 30,000 vehicles use the exit each day.

New barge to connect Missouri and Kentucky

Cape Girardeau, MO – Missouri's Mississippi County Port Authority has received a nine-hundred thousand dollar US Department of Transportation grant to expand the Dorena-Hickman Ferry. The ferry is one of only two ferries crossing the Mississippi in Missouri, and it's the only direct route between that state and Kentucky. Jacob McCleland of KRCU in Cape Girardeau crosses the river to bring us this report.
