Former Kentucky State Penitentiary Warden Returns

Kentucky Department of Corrections

Murray,KY – The longest-serving warden at the state's only maximum security prison returns to the post this week. Officials with the Kentucky Department of Corrections recently appointed Philip Parker as warden at Eddyville's Kentucky State Penitentiary. Parker first retired from the same post in 2002 after serving nine years. Parker, a Murray State Alumnus has spent 25 years working in corrections.

Sixth Swine Flu Death in Kentucky

Georgetown, KY – As shipments of swine flu vaccine continue to reach Kentucky, health officials have announced the death of a Scott County man. This marks the state's sixth swine flu-related death. Scott County Coroner John Goble reports the death of a 39-year-old man. Goble says the man had been sick for several days. He says the man did not appear to have any significant underlying medical condition.

Health Inspector Fired

Hopkinsville, KY – The Todd County Public Health Director has fired a health inspector for not performing his duties. Senior Environmentalist Malcom Rust was put on administrative leave September 29. However, after an October 8th meeting, Public Health Director Leslie Daniels terminated Rust's employment. In a letter posted on the Kentucky New Era website, Rust's failures include not performing inspections, not issuing proper permits, and violating department authority. The department has assigned another inspector to complete Rust's duties.

Boy Still Critical After Shooting

Louisville, KY – An accidental shooting victim is still in critical condition after the incident Saturday. Ten-year-old Kyler Mathis and two other children were target shooting when a rifle accidentally discharged and struck Mathis once in the head. He was transported to Western Baptist Hospital and then airlifted to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says as of last night Mathis was still listed as critical.
