Cash Strapped US Postal Service Offers Employees Buyouts

Louisville, KY – The US Postal Service announced today they will offer $15,000 buyouts to employees in an effort to cut costs. The recession and internet communication have the USPS facing a seven billion dollar shortfall. USPS spokesperson for Kentuckiana David Walton says the buyouts are only the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures.

Ballard Steps Aside

Madisonville, KY – A Madisonville lawmaker is stepping down after 22 years in the legislature. State representative Eddie Ballard says he won't seek re-election next year. The 79-year-old Democrat quipped his age had nothing to do with his decision, saying, "I won't even be 80 until December." Ballard chairs the House Tourism Development and Energy Committee.

Representative Holds Teletown Hall Meetings

Washington, D. C. – First district U-S Representative Ed Whitfield will hold a series of Tele-Town Hall Meetings this Thursday. Thousands of residents will be randomly called to participate during four telephone conference calls. Participants will be allowed to ask questions about health care reform. Around thirty-thousand people are expected to take part.
