Madisonville Free Wi-Fi

Madisonville, KY – The City of Madisonville is partnering with Newwave Communications to bring free wireless internet to the down town area. The future Wi-Fi zone will have a perimeter of Arch Street, CSX Railroad, Center Street and Franklin Street. Users will be allowed four hours of internet access a day after they agree to terms of service on the home page. The City of Madisonville purchased the Wi-Fi system for six-thousand dollars. Newwave will provide maintenance and the internet itself.

Nashville, TN – Tanner, a self-described Blue Dog Democrat, doubts a health care bill will be ready by the end of the year. The congressman cites the number of versions of the bill, three in the House and one in the Senate. He believes the recent health care debate is only the beginning of the process.

Conway Issues Refund Checks to Scam Victims

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway has issued refund checks to over one-thousand SureTouch customers. An investigation found the phone company guilty of deceptive marketing and illegal billing practices in connection with the sales of "SureTouch" long distance calling cards. The allegations came as part of a national telemarketing fraud investigation by the Federal Trade Commission. SureTouch has paid Kentuckians restitution and fees totaling more than 75-thousand dollars.

Ballard County family produces high-tech industrial marine equipment

Ballard County, Ky – It's well known throughout our region that Paducah and the immediate surrounding river counties serve as the inland waterway hub for the commercial marine industry. Barge companies populate the shores of the Ohio in Paducah, but off the beaten path, hidden between a cow pasture and a small forested area in rural Ballard County lays a growing family-owned business now known for making products akin to the space industry, but used in the marine industry. Chad Lampe brings us this story.

Mayfield Town Hall Health Reform

Mayfield, KY – A town hall-style informational meeting on proposed health care reform met in Mayfield last night. The event was hosted at Trace Creek Baptist Church and put on by Paducah's News-Talk radio. A panel made up of the stations' staff and Paducah physician and Kentucky Medical Association vice president Shawn Jones answered audience questions. Those questions focused on death panels', government funded abortions and affordable prescription drugs. Many audience members leaving the meeting said the same thing: health care reform won't be settled in one night.

Defending students from H1N1

Murray, KY – -fall is just around the corner and local schools are gearing up for a potentially hazardous flu season in lieu of the H1N1 swine flu strain. Peak flu season, still ahead, poses a potential threat to the 55 million students and 7 million staff in public grade schools across the United States. Murray Independent School District Nurse Pam Oakley expresses concern for the upcoming flu season.
