Pre-Dawn Ceremony Scheduled for Soldiers Return

Fort Campbell, KY – A welcome home ceremony is scheduled this weekend for soldiers returning to Fort Campbell. Approximately 60 soldiers are scheduled to return at 2:15 Sunday morning. The soldiers are members of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, and have been on a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan. The 159th still has soldiers in Afghanistan who are expected to return to Fort Campbell by the end of the year.

Henry Co. School Board Taking Applications (Again); Approve Sex Ed

Paris, TN – In a 4-1 decision, the Henry County School board voted to reopen the application process for the open director of schools position. Nine candidates have been interviewed and three finalists will still be considered. Board members cited the lack of a wow factor' as the reasoning for the decision. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports the school system will be accepting new applications through November 30th.

Fiscal Court Hears Ballard Jail Needs

Wickliffe, KY – The needs of Ballard County's jail took priority at a special-called meeting yesterday. Members of the county's Fiscal Court listened to a list of replacement costs for equipment. Cost estimates to fix and upgrade the 13-year-old facility are upwards of $175,000; that's nearly 15% more than the jail's annual budget. The Paducah Sun reports replacing the lighting-and-door control system and installing a new ventilation system take top priority. Next week, the fiscal court plans to discuss financing options.

Oak Grove Plans for Convention Center

Clarksville, TN – Oak Grove, Kentucky is considering building a convention center. The four-and-a-half million dollar facility would be in close proximity to Fort Campbell and just across the state line from Clarksville, Tennessee. The city's tourism commission recently secured a loan through the Kentucky League of Cities that will pay for the third phase of construction. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports the convention center will be built between U-S Highway 41-A and I-24.
