Soldier Suspect in Wife's Murder

Clarksville, TN – A Fort Campbell soldier is the lead suspect in his wife's murder. Clarksville, Tennessee, police found 25-year-old Sena Downing shot dead in her garage early this morning. Officers suspected her husband, Jonathan Downing, of the crime. He had fled the crime in his vehicle. Police found the vehicle abandoned in Robertson County, and located Mr. Downing nearby in the woods. He has been charged with criminal homicide and lodged in the Montgomery County Jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing.

Beshear Signs Bill at Base

Fort Campbell, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will be at Fort Campbell military base tomorrow. Beshear plans to ceremonially sign a bill to instate a tax exemption for Kentucky military families. State legislators and Brigadier General Warren Phipps, Jr. also plan to attend.

Wingo Woman Dies

Wingo, KY – A weekend fire has killed an elderly woman in western Kentucky. A Kentucky State Police spokesman says 96-year-old Mary Mozelle Mullins of Wingo died after her stove caught fire, burning her home Saturday afternoon. The Paducah Sun reports foul play was not suspected and officials ordered no autopsy.

Casting Calls

Louisville, KY – Walt Disney Pictures will hold open casting calls in Louisville and Lexington this week for the upcoming movie, Secretariat. Those wishing to appear as extras in the film can go to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Thursday from 3 - 8 PM or to Lexington this Saturday from 9 AM - 2 PM at the Griffin Gate Marriot Resort. The movie will shoot scenes beginning at the end of this month.

Wrecks on I-24 near Paducah

McCracken County, KY – Commuters on I-24 near Paducah's U.S. 45 and Lone Oak Road interchange were slowed this morning due to two separate crashes near exit 7. The McCracken County Sheriff's office continues to investigate the second collision involving a school bus. A McCracken School Bus changed lanes at about the eight mile marker striking a Buick sedan. The Buick's driver was in the bus's blind spot. No one was injured.
