Murray State Wins Fishing Tournament

Murray, KY – The Murray State University Bass Fishing Club has won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Central Division Tournament. The event was this past weekend on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Team members Kalem Tippett of Hanson and Steve Miller of Murray scored a 10,000 dollars prize that will be split between the university and the bass-fishing club. The Central Regional Championship is October 31 - November 2 on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes.

Convicted Soldier Sent to Indiana Prison

Louisville, KY – A former Fort Campbell soldier sentenced to five consecutive life sentences for rape and murder while in Iraq has been assigned to a federal prison in Indiana. A federal grand jury convicted Steven Dale Green in May of rape and multiple counts of murder for the 2006 incident. Green will serve his sentence at Terre Haute United States Penitentiary. He is appealing his conviction.

Court Denies License Plate Hearing

Washington, D. C. – The U-S Supreme Court has refused to hear an anti-abortions group's request to force Illinois to issue "Choose Life" license plates. The high court today left in place a federal appeals court ruling that state officials were within their rights in trying to keep viewpoints on abortion off Illinois license plates. Choose Life Illinois, Inc. sued to force the state to issue the plates.

Gas Prices Decline

Morehead, KY – A petroleum industry analyst says gas prices could fall below two dollars a gallon before Christmas. Jason Toews is co-founder of the websites kentuckygasprices.com and gasbuddy.com. He says Kentuckians are now paying between two-sixteen and two-fifty nine a gallon and it's likely those prices will continue dropping for a while.
