Zombies Attack Downtown Paducah!

Paducah, KY – Be careful going down Broadway in Paducah tomorrow, you may run into a zombie. A group of local residents is hosting a "Zombie Walk" Saturday evening. What's that, you ask? An international phenomenon, a Zombie Walk is a chance for average citizens to dress up as zombies and march en masse down city streets. Oh, and did we mention it's for charity? Bill Revives Kentucky Hemp Industry

Murray, KY – Not so many years ago in the United States, the hemp plant was widely grown for its fiber and seed. But hemp has fallen out of favor in the United States, partly due to its close relation to marijuana. Cultivating either is illegal, although that may change. Kentucky, once one of the leading hemp producers in the nations, is looking to revive the industry. Angela Hatton has the story.

TVA to Buy 450 MegaWatts in Dakotas' Wind Turbines

Knoxville, TN – The Tennessee Valley Authority has agreed to buy 450 megawatts from two wind farms in North and South Dakota. The nation's largest public utility announced yesterday it has signed 20-year power purchase agreements with Maryland-based CVP Renewable Energy Company and Chicago-based Invenergy for electricity generated by wind farms they're developing in the Dakotas.

Paducah Officials to Decide on Pavilion Details

Paducah, KY – Paducah officials are expected to decide next month whether to rent or buy a 40,000 square-foot portable pavilion for next year's quilt show. Since the Executive Inn remains closed, the pavilion is Paducah's solution to house space for vendors who usually set up shop in the hotel. Officials will also have to hammer out the details on the pavilion: whether to buy a steel frame or air supported one. The Paducah Sun reports preliminary estimates put buying a pavilion that size would cost upwards of $1 million.

Unemployment Rates in Montgomery Better

Clarksville, TN – Unemployment rates in Montgomery County, Tennessee are slowly improving. The projections show the number of those without jobs is down to 9% in August, which ranks the county the 9th lowest in the state. The area is still no where near pre-recessionary rates last year, which was just under 7%. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports rates in neighboring Christian and Trigg counties in Kentucky have risen to 13.5%.

Federal Fugitive Apprehended in McCracken Co.

Paducah, KY – A federal fugitive is in custody today after a Kentucky State trooper stopped to aid what he presumed was a stranded motorist in McCracken County last night. When the trooper approached the vehicle's driver around 9:30 near the 13 mile marker on I-24, the driver fled on foot. It was then determined that the man was 41-year-old Scott Herman, who was wanted by US Marshals and the FBI.

Liquor Store Owner Arrested for Drugs

Paducah, KY – The owner of a McCracken County liquor store has been arrested on charges he sold prescription drugs out of his business. McCracken County Sheriff's detectives took Great Spirits owner Andrew Wilson into custody yesterday after allegations Wilson was selling Oxycontin and Lortab out of his business office. A later search of Wilson's residence turned up more evidence. Wilson is charged with three counts of drug possession and three counts of drug trafficking.
