KY Impact of Health Reform Bill

Washington D.C. – A recent study by non-partisan group Families USA finds almost a half-million Kentuckians stand to gain health insurance coverage by 2019. That's if the current healthcare reform bill is passed by congress. Executive Director Ron Pollack says Kentucky has more than 600,000 uninsured.

"If health reform fails, 109,000 people will be added to the ranks of the uninsured," he says.

According to Pollack, the expanded coverage would mostly be the result of widening eligibility to Medicaid programs.

TN's $3.8b in Charitable Donations

Nashville, TN – Internal Revenue Service officials say over 600,000 Tennesseans deducted almost $4 billion in charitable donations on their federal tax returns last year. The IRS wants to remind individuals and businesses who want to make contributions to charities for the 2009 tax season, must do so by December 31st.

Swine Flu Vaccine Recall

Frankfort, KY – The centers for disease control and prevention is recalling 800-
thousand doses of swine flu vaccine distributed nationwide that may be
ineffective. The doses passed potency tests when they were first
shipped, but afterward, tests indicate the potency waned. The doses are
pre-filled syringes intended for children six month to nearly three
years. Kentucky received 21-thousand-800 of the questionable doses,
according to Barbara Fox in the state department for public health.
