Paducah Applies for More Cameras

Paducah, KY – Paducah will apply for a Port Security Grant that would pay for five additional surveillance cameras and equipment for the city's riverfront area. If awarded, they will be installed near the Carson Center and the future boat launch facility. The city last year installed five cameras from the Executive Inn over to Kentucky Avenue. City Commissioners approved applying for the $25,000 grant last night during their weekly meeting.

Filing Deadline Passes

Frankfort, KY – The filing deadline for seeking public office in Kentucky this year has passed. Secretary of State Trey Grayson closed the door on qualifying Monday afternoon, and says he's impressed with the number of people running.

"It's hard to say whether we have an all-time record of filings, but we certainly in recent memory have never had this many candidates for state office. And I think that's good for the voters."

Clarksville Mayor Touts Progress

Clarksville, TN – In a "State of the City" address yesterday Clarksville Mayor Johnny Piper touted the city's progress and development this last year despite a harsh economic climate. He illustrated progress at the city's developing marina and recent growth around Ted Crozier Boulevard. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle cites Piper saying the city has "transformed from a sleepy community with little vision to a large city with great hope."

Texting could be illegal

Frankfort, KY – Texting while driving could soon be illegal in Kentucky if legislation moving in the General Assembly becomes law. The House Transportation committee voted 18-7 for a measure that bans texting, but allows drivers over 18 to still use their cell phones. Republican Rep. Tim Couch of Hyden was among the opponents.

"I think we should probably look at an amendment to amend the bill to outlaw eating, looking at your maps, using your radio, rolling your windows down, or locking your doors. Thank you."
