City and County Cleanup Costs

Madisonville, KY – Officials in Hopkins County and Madisonville have released the current figures for ice storm cleanup efforts. Hopkins County Judge Executive Donnie Carroll says only twenty percent of the county's debris removal is complete, but crews have picked up five hundred thousand cubic yards of debris.

LBL Openings

Eddyville, KY – Several locations in Land Between the Lakes are opening back up ahead of schedule after ice storm debris closed them down nearly two months ago. LBL Spokesperson Kathryn Harper says areas including Energy Lake Campground and Woodlands Nature Station will open on a limited capacity March 20. Harper credits money received for ice storm damage from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for some of the early openings. LBL received two and a half million dollars in total from the act. Frankfort, KY – While debris crews continue clean up efforts from January's ice storm, Kentucky Emergency Management and FEMA officials are urging residents to prepare themselves for floods. FEMA Spokesperson Beettina Hutchings says Kentuckians are particularly vulnerable to flooding.

"They have more rivers that run through Kentucky than any other state in the US. And they have dealt with flash floods and rising water in the past."
