Murray, KY – The community honors the late Jan Wilson's contributions to music education with a ceremony dedicating a water wall fountain in her memory for Waterfield Library at Murray State on Sunday, February 18, at 1:30 p.m. Following at 2:30 p.m. the Murray Civic Music Association presents a concert in Mrs. Wilson's honor, featuring University of Iowa School of Music faculty Dr. Scott Conklin, violin and Dr. Alan Huckleberry, piano. Kate Lochte has more with Scott Conklin, a Murray native and son of music educators Liz and Ray Conklin.

Kentucky Math and Science Academy

Murray, KY – Inspired by Thomas Friedman's book "The World is Flat" and other educational imperatives, Kentucky has established and accelereated program for high school students with talents for math and science. Graves County native Corey Alderdice, a 1999 Governor's Scholar and Western Kentucky University graduate, spoke with Kate Lochte while on a student recruiting pass in our region.

Boat Tax

Murray, KY – Nearly ten years ago, Kentucky's General Assembly amended a tax law that reduced the amount boat owners had to pay. The move was praised as being good for tourism. But language in the law allows counties to tack on their own tax, in addition to the state. Until now, there was no real way to pinpoint who owned the tax. But now that the bills are going out, it has some owners moving to surrounding states that don't have the tax.
