Trigg County Attorney Named to Top 10

Cadiz, KY – The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services has ranked Trigg County Attorney H. B. Quinn as one of the ten top-performing child support contractors for the 2007-2008 year. Cabinet Spokesperson Anya Armes Weber tells the Cadiz Record the rankings are based on paternity establishments, child support orders and child support collections. Quinn says his office has been recognized as one of the top in the state at least eight times since 1986.

Quinn Warns Blagojevich, Impeachment Coming

Illinois – Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn is warning Governor Rod Blagojevich that he's on his way to being impeached by the Illinois House, convicted in the State Senate and removed from office. Quinn says he believes that's what will happen to Blagojevich, and the governor should adjust his conduct accordingly. The lieutenant governor says Blagojevich can't give full attention to his job running the state, and that he's lost the confidence of the people of Illinois. Blagojevich has said he won't resign and will fight the charges against him.

Paducah Man Embezzles from Toys for Tots

Paducah, Kentucky – A Paducah man is charged with embezzling money from Toys for Tots. 33-year-old Jason Carper was arrested Monday and admitted to taking in excess of $11,000 from the US Marine Corps-run organization that provides holiday gifts to needy children. Paducah Police say Carper, a local coordinator for the charity, took the money over the last three to four months, transferring it from a Toys for Tots account into his own personal account to pay personal expenses, including a house payment.

KET Faces More Cuts

Kentucky – Kentucky Educational Television is taking a major hit under Governor Steve Beshear's budget-balancing plan. Education Secretary Helen Mountjoy says KET is a member of the 18-percent club, which means their budget has already been cut 18 percent this calendar year. Now they're facing another four-percent cut.

"They're probably going to have to discontinue the KET ED program, which is a whole series of programs that go directly into classrooms and are used all over the commonwealth."
