Land Before the Lakes - Part 2

Murray, KY – It's a chilly Saturday morning at Woodson Cemetery in Land Between the Lakes. For most of the year, this spot is a quiet place of peace and reflection, but this morning it's alive with the sounds of chainsaws and rakes. Bundled up volunteers spread out across the lawn and clear the graves of debris left from January's ice storm.

"This is one tangible aspect of our past. So, we just decided to start cleaning. Our thing is to protect the cemeteries and protect them as best we can."

MSU Student Wins Defense Fellowship

Murray, KY – Murray State physics and engineering student Eli Hooten joined others from prestigious universities such as Princeton, Cornell and Stanford when he was selected from a pool of thousands to win a coveted National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate fellowship. Hooten is the only MSU student in recent history to win the honor. Carrie Pond talks with the graduating senior about his research and how he plans to use it in the future.

And the dark comedy "Sunshine Cleaners," playing this week at Paducah's Maiden Alley Cinema, certainly illustrates that sentiment with its story of two sisters working out their lives and running a crime scene clean-up business. Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Steve Zahn, and Alan Arkin star. Todd Hatton spoke with Larry Thomas about this bittersweet film that shows us the odd places family ties can lead us.

Trial Update with Brett Barrouquere

Paducah, KY – Former Fort Campbell soldier Steven Dale Green has been on trial in Paducah since Monday for the 2006 slaying of an Iraqi family. Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case. Angela Hatton interviews Associated Press reporter Brett Barrouquere, who is covering the trial, about develops in the first week.

Casey Jones: The Man Behind the Legend

Western Kentucky – Casey Jones perished at the throttle of a locomotive on Apr. 30, 1900, gaining his greatest fame for his violent death. Now, his name evokes images of grandiose risk-taking, and to do a "Casey Jones" means to take a bad spill. Many consider him an American folk character, but Casey Jones did exist. He grew up in Cayce, a small town in Fulton County that inspired his nickname. Jacque Day goes back in time for a ride along in the life of this railroad legend.
