FEMA Reimbursements

Murray, Ky – It's been one month since the devastating ice storm struck the region. More than 700-thousand Kentuckians were without power. Many still remain without power. The Federal Emergency Management Agency was summoned to help with resources initially, and now are facilitating reimbursement for civic organizations and first responders. Chad Lampe speaks with FEMA public affairs specialist Diana Gee about the reimbursement process.

Debris collected exceeds 84,000 cubic yards

Paducah, KY – Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have picked up more than 84 thousand cubic yards of debris in the State's 12 westernmost counties since last month's ice storm. Spokesman Keith Todd says that amount of material would fill more than 38,200 pickup trucks. Crews have collected the most material from Lyon and Livingston counties so far. Motorists are reminded to remain alert for removal crews as they continue their work.

Tution Increase Cap

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House and Senate leaders are applauding a proposal to cap public university tuition increases at or below five percent next school year. The proposal, to be considered next month by the Council on Postsecondary Education, pleases Senate President David Williams.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West

Western Kentucky – Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville is the first of its kind in this region. Since its dedication in March 2004, nearly five years ago, more than a thousand veterans, spouses, and dependents including 11 active duty soldiers killed in Iraq have come to a final rest at the cemetery's grounds. Jacque Day highlights the life of the first soldier buried at the military cemetery, an African American Mess Sergeant who enlisted in the US Army during segregation.
