Highway Safety Effort Begins

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is starting a new campaign for highway work zone safety. The program uses signs and advertisements to remind motorists to reduce speeds and eliminate distractions while driving through construction zones. Cabinet spokesperson Andrea Clifford says there will be many additional workers on the highways starting this month.

TN Abortion Bill Advances

Nashville, TN – A proposal that would impose greater limits on abortion is advancing in the Tennessee House of Representatives. The resolution passed the House Health and Human Resources Committee Tuesday and its companion bill was approved in the Senate last month. The legislation seeks to overturn a state Supreme Court ruling from 2000 that says abortion rights are protected by the state constitution. An amendment to the measure failed that would have allowed for abortions in cases of rape, incest and the health of the woman.

Kentucky Lottery Revenue

Richmond, KY – After 20 years the Kentucky Lottery is still working to increase revenue. This year, the lottery hopes to earn a record high of 800 million dollars. That's 25 million more than last year's earnings. Kentucky Lottery spokesman Chip Polston says players are loyal.

Grant awarded to Paris Police Department

Paris, TN – Henry County, TN will soon receive a small chunk of President Obama's stimulus package. Officer Jeff Wygul says the government earmarked $30,000 for the Paris Police Department and the same amount to the Henry County Sheriff's Department. The police plan to use the money to purchase new equipment and possibly to begin an auxiliary program for Citizen's Police Academy graduates.
