Battling Bird Flu in Kentucky

Edmonson County, KY – State agriculture officials announced late last week that a form of avian influenza had been detected on a farm near Edmonson County in western Kentucky. The situation is not considered to be a significant risk to the public health, but it could hurt the state's poultry industry as it tries to expand export markets. Kentucky Public Radio's Dan Modlin has this update.

Twisters hit western Kentucky

Paducah, KY – Many western Kentucky communities received damage by tornado touchdowns during today's bought of severe weather. National Weather Service Meteorologist Robin Smith says twisters touched down in Crofton and Eddyville, causing widespread damage He says the Mannington community in Christian county was hit particularly hard.

"We actually have 2 confirmed injured, we've had some mobile homes destroyed, a propane tank explosion some cars destroyed."

Severe Weather Hits Lyon, Christian counties

Paducah, KY – Destroyed mobile homes and at least two confirmed injuries are coming from preliminary damage reports from today's bought of severe weather. National Weather Service Meteorologist Robin Smith says portions of Christian county were hit particularly hard.

"We've had numerous reports of hail from the size of peas up to the size of baseballs. The very large hail was reported around the Crofton, KY area. Two inches or greater.

Severe Weather

Murray, KY – A strong line of storms is moving through the region. Tornado warnings were issued this morning for parts of northwest Tennessee and far western Kentucky. There have yet to be any damage reports or confirmed tornados. A tornado watch remains in effect until 4 PM for much of western Kentucky. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of tornados. Stay tuned to WKMS for updates this afternoon.
