Henry County Jail Nets a Million

Paris, TN – The Henry County Jail got a huge income jump this year. The jail netted nearly a million dollars in revenue for fiscal year 2008-2009. Sheriff Monte Belew says typically the jail holds around 88 state prisoners with the state paying the county around 33-dollars per prisoner each day. Belew also says that the cost of housing these prisoners was only around $75,000, leaving $975,000 to be turned back into the county general fund.

Calloway County Strikes Debris Deal with Paper Mill

Murray, KY – Calloway County's debris from January's ice storm will soon be used as fuel at a Wickliffe, Kentucky paper mill. Currently the debris piled high at the city transfer station will be ground up and taken to the New Page paper mill. The company plans to burn the debris as boiler fuel. City Street Superintendent Ron Allbritten says Murray's debris alone amounted to over 1,600 tons. Decker Logging of Henry County, Tennessee will be handling the chipping process, which is expected to take about two weeks.

Cadets Graduate

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's "Thin Gray Line" just got a little stronger. Thirty-four new state troopers graduated from the Kentucky State Police Academy in Frankfort, bringing the agency's operational force to 928 troopers. But Commissioner Rodney Brewer says that's still well below KSP's authorized troop strength of one-thousand-70.

Inmates Escape in Hardin County

Elizabethtown, IL – The Hardin County, Illinois Sheriff's Department is looking for two inmates who escaped this morning from the county jail. Hardin Sheriff Tom Seiner says Randall Warren and Dwayne Bruce were on recreational time when they fled the facility. Wayne and Bruce were last seen wearing jail uniforms and could be driving a stolen car. Officials have not released any other information.

WKCTC Announces New Training Center

Paducah, KY – West Kentucky Community and Technical College announced plans for a new Skilled Craft Training Center yesterday. The college will build its new center in the Twin Hills Building near Mayfield. The WKCTC foundation, signed a memorandum with the Lay Family Foundation in St. Louis for $1.5 million to help fund the project. Officials plan to offer courses on wielding, ventilation, air conditioning and automotive technology. They will add other programs based on community need.

The Almo woman, who recently started Special Home for Injured Poultry rescue, says chickens are more than just lunch on legs. Carrie Pond has more.
