Metropolis Offers Loans with State Help

Metropolis, IL – A sizable amount of state stimulus money will allow Metropolis to offer loans to small businesses. Mayor Billy McDaniel says he learned Monday that the Illinois government accepted the city's application for 750 thousand-dollars in Intermediary Relending Program funds. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Rural Development and will be loaned to businesses at lower interest rates than conventional lenders. Applicants must still qualify for the program and eventually repay the government.

TN Text Law

Nashville, TN – A Tennessee law prohibiting people from reading or sending cell phone text messages while driving takes effect Wednesday. Violators of the texting law would be fined $50. The action would be considered a nonmoving traffic violation, meaning no points would be added to a person's driving record.

Senate Fundraising Deadline

Frankfort, KY – Today is the second-quarter fundraising deadline for Kentucky's U.S. Senate hopefuls. Republican incumbent Jim Bunning has said he would re-evaluate his campaign in July to determine if he stays in the race. WKU political science professor Scott Lasley says a poor showing may signal Bunning's swan song.

Prostitution Sting Nets Two

Murray, KY – Paducah Police have netted two in a prostitution sting over the weekend. The operation used one of the department's female officers as a decoy. 33-year-old Eric Lawrence and 53-year-old William Vincent were arrested hours apart from each other. Police say Vincent exposed himself to the decoy minutes before his arrest.
