States Board Narrows List of Education Commissioner Candidates

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky could soon have a new education commissioner. The board narrowed its list of candidates to four last week after a round of interviews. Spokesperson Lisa Gross says the board will meet Wednesday for final interviews with the remaining candidates.

Trey Grayson Reports Fundraising

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson says he has raised more than 600-thousand dollars toward a possible run for U-S Senate next year. Grayson is positioning himself to seek the G-O-P nomination second-term Republican Jim Bunning pulls out of the race. Western Kentucky University Political Science Professor Scott Lasley says time is the only factor affecting Grayson's Senate aspirations.

Murray Man Deploys with Agriculture Team

Murray, KY – A Murray man is a part of a Kentucky National Guard agriculture team headed to Afghanistan. Captain Jeremy Ballard and 63 other guardsmen will deploy as an Agribusiness Development Team. The soldiers will teach Afghan citizens agricultural techniques and self-sufficiency. A departure ceremony is today in Frankfort.

Two-City Super Quilt Show Comes to Metropolis/Paducah in September

Metropolis, IL – TThe Super City-Quilt City Connection will hold a quilt show September 12th and 13th at Harrah's Casino in Metropolis in conjunction with special programs and displays at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah.

Harrah's Convention Center will host vendors, exhibits, and other arts and crafts, including other areas such as food and cooking. There will also be a hands-on demonstration for all ages will let you make your own super-hero cape.

KY Income Tax Exemption for Military

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky lawmakers are looking to entice more Fort Campbell and Fort Knox troops to become full-time residents by exempting them from the state's income tax. State lawmakers last month approved an income tax exemption for members of the active duty military beginning January 2010. It will apply to all military pay earned by active duty soldiers, reservists, and National Guard members.

Hopkinsville State Senator Joey Pendleton says he feels the exemption will be a big economic development win for the state.
