Expert says Green suffered brain damage

Paducah, KY – A neuropsychologist says the ex-Ft. Campbell soldier facing a possible death sentence for rape and murder in Iraq has brain damage in the areas that control impulses. The Director of Neuropsychology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine testified in the sentencing phase of former Private First Class Steven Green. A jury convicted Green last week of raping and killing an Iraqi girl and her family.

Commission Considers Arts Ordinance

Paducah, KY – The Paducah City Commission considers an ordinance tonight to allow local artists to create and sell work around the downtown gazebo. The ordinance would establish a permanent place for artists to work outside and sell their creations. Those utilizing the space would pay an annual fee, and the city would allow guest permits for those not wanting to sell their art in the space. The measure would also create a similar space around the Texaco Station visitor's office in LowerTown.

Mayfield Doctor Faces Charges

Mayfield, KY – A former Mayfield doctor faces hearings after he allegedly treated patients without a license. Dr. Dinesh Shah faces eleven charges, including illegally practicing medicine, assuming a false name, and trafficking in controlled substances. His pretrial hearing is June 22. The state board has suspended Shah's license due to malpractice. He also faces a civil lawsuit in connection with a patient's death. A jury trial is set for that case July 7 in Graves Circuit Court.

McKenzie Manufacturer Closes

McKenzie, TN – A hundred and eighty-eight employees will lose their jobs with the closure of a McKenzie, TN company. New Generations Furniture Company announced to workers Friday that the plant would officially close that day. The McKenzie Banner reports layoffs began two weeks ago, but some employees will remain at the job until work is depleted next week. The furniture company began operations in the town 12 years ago. At its peak, the manufacturer provided nearly 400 jobs to area workers.
