Special training for elderly drivers

South-Central, KY – Senior citizens in Kentucky are involved in more than 15 thousand vehicle collisions per year. To help address that issue, some special training programs for mature drivers have been implemented in south-central Kentucky. Kentucky Public Radio's Dan Modlin has this report.

Computer Crash Closes Library

Madisonville, KY – Residents in Madisonville are without a library after a computer crash shut down the Public Library. Director Lisa Wigley says the building has been closed since Sunday after the system's two hard drives crashed. Wigley isn't sure what caused the crash. Full-time employees have been working to install a new system and get the library back to full operation. Part-time employees have been asked to stay home until the library opens to the public. Patrons won't be charged for any overdue materials.

Chemical Spill on I-24

Cadiz, KY – I-24 roadways near the Trigg-Caldwell county line have reopened after a chemical spill. The eastbound interstate was closed for over an hour today as HAZMAT crews cleaned up the area. Initial reports had indicated the chemical was carbon dioxide. Motorists should continue to use caution when driving through the area.

July Jobless Numbers for Kentucky

Frankfort, KY – Jobless rates in Kentucky continue to set unemployment records. Statewide rates for June indicate nearly 11 percent of residents are out of work. Numbers are up marginally from 10.7 percent in May. Individual county data will be released soon. Kentucky's jobless rate is more than one point higher than the national rate of 9.5 percent.

Trigg Co. Ranks 53rd in State Economic Impact

Cadiz, KY – The Kentucky Department of Travel reports the economic impact from tourism in Trigg County ranks 53rd in the Commonwealth. Tourism spending in 2008 increased by more than $1.3 million over previous figures. The Cadiz-Trigg Tourist Commission says the county's economic impact totals over $21 million.
