Clarksville Police Arrest Soldier after Shooting

Clarksville, TN – An Indiana National Guard soldier has been arrested and charged with trying to kill another man in Clarksville, Tennessee by shooting him in the head. Police arrested 27-year-old Caleb Andrew Pearl of Butlerville, Indiana, yesterday. Pearl is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

Authorities say police went to a house around 3:20 Sunday morning and found 24-year-old Michael Ellis outside his home with a gunshot wound to the head after an argument with Pearl.

KY Pandemic Flu Exercise

Murray, KY – The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management has initiated a statewide pandemic influenza exercise starting today and continuing through Friday. The exercise will assess the levels of preparedness of elected officials, health and emergency management agencies as well as local businesses. Murray State's emergency management team will meet this afternoon at 1:00 pm to prepare for Calloway County's exercise on Thursday.

6 Cases of Swine Flu in Muhlenberg Co.

Greenville, KY – Health officials in Muhlenberg County say they have confirmed six cases of swine flu, also known H1N1. The state's health lab confirmed the cases Friday. Muhlenberg County's health department also reported another 23 cases of suspected swine flu. Those cases were in a residential setting, but the site was not identified by the health department. Officials report those individuals have agreed to be quarantined.

Amish Man Drowns in Trigg Co.

Trigg County, KY – An Amish man from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, drowned while swimming in a Trigg County farm pond over the weekend. Department of Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer Ken Richards says 20-year-old Jonas Beilor died Saturday while after taking off his life jacket while swimming with friends. Richards says Beilor was in the area to help build a house in the Amish community.

Farmers Markets Popular in IL

Springfield, IL – Federal government data shows the number of Illinois farmers markets has nearly tripled in the last 10 years. The data also shows farmers in Illinois sell about $114 million in specialty crops a year.

Delayne Reeves is a marketing specialist with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. She's in charge of grant money to support locally grown foods. Reeves says there's demand from the public for farmers market fruits and vegetables.
