Paducah, KY – A Paducah man has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse for inappropriately touching an 11-year-old girl. Paducah police arrested 46-year-old William K. Harriford after he admitted contact with the girl. The investigation commenced last week after the child reported the abuse to her mother, who went to the Cabinet for Children and Family Services. They, in turn, notified Paducah police detectives. Harriford was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail this morning on no bond.
Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky office of employment and training is bringing in more people to help out of work Kentuckians find jobs. The division has hired sixty new employees. Executive Director Russ Salsman says the new hires will help with an increased demand on the department, which comes from the rising number of residents seeking unemployment benefits. Federal stimulus dollars provide the money for the workers, who will be in place through September 2010.
Clarksville, TN – A Clarksville man was found guilty yesterday in Montgomery County Court of killing a toddler. 36-year-old Timothy Diggs, Senior will spend at least 51 years in prison for beating 22-month-old Christopher Andre Nicholson, who died from blunt force injuries two years ago. Judge Mike Jones found Diggs guilty of felony murder and aggravated child abuse following a two-day trial. Automatic sentencing makes Diggs eligible for parole in 2060. Those figures could change as a sentencing hearing is scheduled for early September.
