Mongiardo Fundraising Totals

Murray, KY – U-S Senate hopeful Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo says his fundraising numbers will be out soon. The Democrat said at the Murray Chamber of Commerce dinner last night he expects his total will be around eight-hundred thousand dollars. Mongiardo's staff is still finalizing the count. Both Mongiardo and state Attorney General Jack Conway are vying for the seat currently held by second-term Republican Jim Bunning. Conway announced earlier this week he has raised 1.3 million dollars.

IL Governor to Approve Public Works Program

Springfield, IL – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he will sign legislation creating a huge public works program to help the state's economy. Quinn plans to sign the bill on Monday. Illinois has gone years without a major investment in roads, bridges, schools and other infrastructure. The governor has backed the roughly $29 billion construction program from the beginning.

KY Recognizes Schools for At-Risk Students

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Department of Education is rewarding six schools across the state for their work with at-risk students. Calloway County Day Treatment is among the recipients. Other recipients are schools in Bath, Boyd, Daviess, Jefferson, and Jessamine Counties. Department of Education spokeswoman Lisa Gross says each of the schools will receive $1,000 for instructional support and will be formally recognized at a future meeting of the Kentucky Board of Education.

Lexington, KY – The Kentucky state health department is holding free workshops next week for volunteers and medical professionals interested in helping out during public health emergencies. The July 18th workshop is scheduled at the Lexington Convention Center.

Proof Opens at Playhouse in the Park

Murray, Ky. – When a mentally unraveled mathematician dies, his protege discovers a paradigm-shifting proof in the famous man's papers. But things get sticky when the professor's daughter Catherine, an undereducated recluse who cared for her father during his illness, claims authorship. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Proof" opens Friday, July 10 at Playhouse in the Park. Jacque Day talks with the director and two members of the cast.

Trover Jury Selection in Third Day

Madisonville, KY – Jury selection continues today for the trial of a former Madisonville doctor accused of negligence. Former Trover Health System chief radiologist Dr. Phillip Trover is charged with not providing vital x-ray information that eventually led to a woman's death. Both Trover and the hospital claim no wrongdoing.

Beshear and EEO

Louisville, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says a tight budget is making it difficult, but his administration wants to increase the percentage of women and minorities in state government positions. Beshear spoke today (Thursday) at the Governor's Equal Employment Opportunity Conference in Louisville. He says much work has been done to increase diversity in state government, but there is more to do.
