Mayor Piper forwards anti-Muslim e-mail

Clarksville, KY – Clarksville mayor Piper is defending an e-mail he forwarded to city officials and employees. The Leaf Chronicle reports the email urges readers to boycott a stamp honoring two Muslim holidays, and asks readers to remember a number of "Muslim" terrorist attacks. Piper says the e-mail wasn't anti-Muslim but gave information for others to draw their own conclusions. Clarksville Islamic center president Ahmed Joudah (JO-dah) says the e-mails contents represent "appalling ignorance of what Islam is, and who Muslims are."

University of Louisville Goes Smoke-Free

Louisville, KY – The University of Louisville's campuses will be completely smoke-free by June first of next year. The university is phasing in a smoking ban, starting November 19th. Provost Shirley Willihnganz says the Belknap campus was smoke-free indoors, and the Health Sciences campus is already completely smoke-free, but they wanted to make a statement against smoking campus-wide.

Winters Added to Bio-fuels Taskforce

Murray,KY – Kentucky First District State Senator Ken Winters now sits on Governor Beshear's Executive Task Force on Biomass and Biofuels Development. The twenty-one member group will facilitate the development of an alternative energy industry. Winters says because of the Commonwealth's agriculture Biomass and Biofuels make the most sense as an alternative energy source. The task-force had its first meeting Wednesday and will continue to meet until November to develop recommendations for the Governor.

Fulbright Schoarship recipient back from Germany

Murray, KY – The Fulbright Scholarship program is a prestigious award that allows educators to exchange ideas and experiences across cultures. Murray State Associate Professor of Music Dr. Stephanie Rea is one of 3 M-S-U faculty members to receive a Fulbright Scholarship in the past year. Rea just returned to campus after a five-month stay in Frankfort, Germany, and she sits down with Chris Taylor to tell us more about her work.
